The Medical Oncology Registered Nurse at Vail Health plays a significant role in our Shaw Cancer Center. Our Oncology nurse work with the physicians and other members of interdisciplinary teams to take care of patients with cancer. This job requires compassion and personal fortitude to deal with patients suffering from such a profound illness as cancer. Functions also roll out to the following, but not limited to:
Shaw Cancer Center's medical oncologists specialize in treating cancer using systemic therapy such as chemotherapy or biologic therapy. Chemotherapy uses medication to destroy cancer cells. Often, it is the only treatment necessary; other times, cancer treatment plans may include chemotherapy plus surgery and/or radiation.
