About the Position
The Clinical Nurse the Palliative Care Unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care.
About the Palliative Care Unit at MD Anderson
The Palliative Care Unit at MD Anderson provides an approach that improves the quality of life of the patients and their families facing the problems associated with life threaten illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification, impeccable assessment and treatment of all physical, psychological and spiritual symptoms. Conventional and complimentary therapies are utilized on the Acute Palliative Care Unit through an Interdisciplinary Team approach to improve the quality of life for both the patient and family through disease process. Intermediate Level Unit with 12 private rooms focused on providing symptom managements for patients that are at the end-of-life.
Essential Functions
Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.
Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team.
Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
Participates in data collection for current studies.
Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
Documents care according to established standards.
Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems.
Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.
Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

Qualifications/Requirements
Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, an RN license and at least twelve months of recent RN experience in an acute care setting.
Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing, required
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, preferred
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN), required
Certification in oncology or specialty practice area, preferred
1 year of relevant clinical nursing experience, preferred
Patient care environment experience, preferred
Shift
7 am - 7 pm
26 out of 52 weekend shifts per year
