About the Position

The ideal candidate will have at least 12 months of recent OR nursing experience and experience scrubbing and circulating. Qualified candidates will be considered for a position in one of the following areas: head and neck/plastics, GGTPR (gyn, GU, thoracic, pediatrics, and robotics), neuro/ortho and surgical oncology. Varied shifts available.

 

About the Surgery Unit at MD Anderson 

Perioperative Services strives to be the safest perioperative environment in the world, to have the highest quality of perioperative outcomes, and to demonstrate the core values in our vision. Partnered with the Division of Nursing, Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and the Division of Surgery, this multidisciplinary team performs more than 15,000 surgical cases each year in more than 43 operating rooms (37 in Main and 6 in Mays not sure if you want to separate) spanning the Main Building and Mays Clinic. The population served is Adult and Pediatric oncology.

 

Essential Functions

  • Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.
  • Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
  • Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies. Participates in data collection for current studies.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies. Documents care according to established standards.
  • Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems.
  • Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
  • Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.
  • Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

Qualifications/Requirements

The ideal candidate will have at least 12 months of recent OR nursing experience and experience scrubbing and circulating. Qualified candidates will be considered for a position in one of the following areas: head and neck/plastics, GGTPR (gyn, GU, thoracic, pediatrics, and robotics), neuro/ortho and surgical oncology. Varied shifts available.

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing, required
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, preferred
  • Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN), required
  • 1 year recent RN experience in the Operating Room, preferred
  • Certification in oncology or specialty practice area, preferred
  • Patient care environment experience, preferred
